One Really Long Day getting Men Out of the Ellis County Texas Jail

It’s just past midnight.  I began working at 4 am to get 10 men out of the Ellis County Texas Jail.  We’ve managed to get six out so far.  It took until 9 pm tonight, and then it took me three hours to drop each of them at a place to sleep for the night.

Michael Finch aka Harry Potter, and Nick Parker are shown here along with Michael McGowan and Robert Jack.

The guys didn’t know who bonded them out; they all said they thought it was a prank.  Lots of smiles!  It was a GREAT day!

FYI: Michael McGowan aka “Mr. Grits” was my first close jail friend.  We were in O Tank together for 30 days until they moved everyone elsewhere.  Mike is handicapped, but you’d never know it from his work ethic and attitude.  Mike was always anxious to eat anything that I or anyone else didn’t like.  I probably gave him 20 servings of grits or watery oatmeal.

Nick Parker is 20-year-old, 6’6″ boy.  Like Mike, he was always looking out for me.  I bet he camne up to me 100 times in the month we were together in P Tank to ask if I was okay.  He would see me sitting in my bunk or at a picnic table without a smile.  Nick was a real favorite of many of the guys.  He was my ballpoint pen supplier.  I must have emptied two dozen of these ballpoint pen refills, and Nick fashioned a casing out of an envelope to help me write better and with less pain.  Nick loves his daughters!  He was in jail because he and his oldest daughter were taking a nap, and she got up and went outside while he was sleeping.  He was arrested for endangering a child.

Michael Finch was arrested for running from the police.  No charge as to any crime; he wasn’t wanted for anything; he just didn’t want to be stopped by the police apparently.  He was a cellie (prison term for someone who shares the other bed in your bunk) in O Tank.

Robert Jack was a recent addition to P Tank.  He was in the bunk right next to me.  He was charged with stealing a shell of a car (no motor, etc.) that someone gave to him.  Robert is a very nice man and quite the ladies man, it seems.
